Post Crew of CBS’s Survivor Ratifies Union Contract

Santa Monica, California – August 21, 2014 – The post-production crew of the long-running hit series Survivor has unanimously voted to ratify the union contract they won after their one-day strike last week.

The post crew is represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the IATSE’s Local 700, the Motion Picture Editors Guild.

“We salute the Survivor post crew for standing up and standing together to win a union contract,” said Editors Guild President Alan Heim, A.C.E. “This is a strong agreement that will help to lift standards not just for the Survivor crew, but for all those working in unscripted television.”

The agreement will provide union health and retirement benefits for the post crew, as well as implementing vacation and holiday pay and instituting an 8-hour workday and 40-hour workweek. Those employees previously working at rates below union scale will see increases in their base pay.

With this contract, Survivor joins the growing ranks of reality television shows made with union labor. In recent years, the IATSE and the Editors Guild have had repeated success organizing crews working in unscripted television. Before Survivor, the most recent post-production crew to secure an IATSE agreement through a work stoppage was the crew of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

The Motion Picture Editors Guild is Local 700 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). Established in 1937, the Guild now represents more than 7,300 postproduction professionals working nationwide in television, features, and new media.
