Over the course of our previous four days of picketing Shahs of Sunset, the crew members on strike have been joined on the picket line by Editors Guild volunteers and staff, our sisters and brothers from throughout L.A.-based IATSE locals, allies from other unions -- most notably SAG-AFTRA -- a State Senator, and a host of other well-wishers. Today, our fifth day of picketing, we had a new guest: Scabby the Rat. Scabby, a nine-foot tall inflatable rodent often used in labor disputes to call attention to anti-union employers, made an appearance to illustrate a truism of organized labor: union-busting is disgusting!
The strike continues, and at least one anonymous source quoted in the trades suggests that NBCUniversal views this fight as one that is much larger than a single crew on a single show; for them, it's about stopping recent organizing momentum and keeping unscripted television non-union. For the network and the corporation behind it, the stakes in this fight are high. They're high for us, too.
Come join Scabby -- and a slew of more attractive picketers -- as we walk the line again to demonstrate that our solidarity is stronger than their recalcitrance! Together, we'll show Ryan Seacrest Productions and Comcast/NBCUniversal that they can waste time, but they can't turn back the clock.
